Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep....

Ok, you might think that there is only one child in our family with these last few posts but sometimes one child goes through some huge stages very quickly.  Last night J Man slept in a big bed.  Not only did he sleep there, but he stayed there, and even waited for us to get him out in the morning!  I must say I was a little surprised, of all 3 kids who moved to a big bed he is the youngest (12 months), the others were 15-18 months.  My thought has been, move them before they know that they can get out.  Not to say that Jude won't try this trick, but with one night under our belts I am hopeful that he will follow the pattern the other kids have set with staying in bed!  I must say though that it isn't a real big bed, it is just a twin mattress on the floor with a rail so he won't roll out.  Once he masters this for a while then perhaps we will add a box spring and see how it goes.  This all started yesterday when we were given a free twin bed and a free futon.  The futon is in our room acting as a couch for now, but when little ones are sick they have a nice place in our room to crash instead of the floor.  So, with the twin bed we thought, it will be for Jude someday, why not try it now and if it doesn't work, the crib is still in his room.  So, before I move the crib I think I want to have a full week of success.

I said that I'd update on the girls field trips.  They went very well!  Beaner loved the walk to the pond and when we saw her marching back with her class she was hand in hand  with her best friend!  Cici loved her trip and enjoyed being on the bus, and with friends.  She took her camera and took close to 60 pictures of friends, birds, eggs, friends, friends...  She was soooo tired though when she got home and still this morning was so tired.

So, today is going to be warm, I dare say warm enough to bring out the pool!  Today is also the day to finish rearranging our room so the futon will fit!  Enjoy your day, and hopefully there is a pool in your future too!

This is Jude's new trick as of today.  I found him on the deck today standing and squealing with excitement about his new skill.  And then tonight he did this 3 times and held it for 5-7 seconds each!  I can't wait for him to walk, I need him to walk!!

In other kid news, it is a big day for the girls tomorrow.  They both have field trips to go to.  Gracie is going to Creston to  a bird sanctuary, she is really excited to go on such a big trip.  Beth is going on a walk to a small lake near her school, she is really excited too about her "first field trip" as she said tonight!  I will let you know how they go.

I took this photo yesterday at Fort Steele and it was just too cute not to share with you.  It is classic J Man.  He saw a bird and was signing bird and saying it.  Well, he was saying "Ga" but he is only one.

We have been busy having fun and it continues today as we go and do some extra planting.  We have a friend who has lent us some of their huge garden space, so we are going to put there all the things that wont fit in ours.  Our thought was to plant all the things that will mature in fall so we won't have to go out there to tend to them.  They are even going to water it for us.  So, if all goes well, we'll have lots of potatoes, onions, celery, pumpkins, squash and peppers.... hopefully it is a fortress against the deer!

My Sweetie is napping on the floor, the girls are playing go fish and J Man is napping.  It is a sunny spring day, very nice, very nice indeed!

Well, I must go tend to the kids, get them lathered up in "Screen" and hats and a Farming we will go!!

Sicky

So, not a bad day today.  The wind was crazy, it hailed, it rained, it was sunny, we had it all.  Beaner went to school this morning and did some finger painting which is a big step for her!  You know how she "loves" to get messy.  Speaking of this, we were in the garden a few days ago and she was picking up worms and finding homes for them, walking around with them, loving them.  Wow, Beaner with worms!

Anyway, Cici went for a field trip to the Kimberley Public Library today with her class and even got her own library card.  She told us that there are even books there that adults can read!!

Hummm, what else, oh ya, you  might be wondering why the title is Sicky.  Well, that is J Man's plight.  He has had a fever all day and then quickly ended  our dinner with a large bout of vomiting.  Poor guy.  Cici wasn't too impressed as she was sitting next to him and we dismissed everyone from the table no matter how much they had eaten and declared dinner over!  He is asleep, with Tylenol, and we'll see how the rest of the night goes.  He might be reacting to his shots he got last week, and the 3 cups of Juice/water he drank quickly might have added to the tummy troubles!

I love that it is staying so light out now.  It is light till almost 10pm now but I am a little sad that we have only a month left till it heads the other way.  I really like going to bed when it is still light out.  I feel like I am getting so much sleep!  Of course, I have been getting a lot of sleep, I have been to bed before 10pm, and my Sweetie for that matter, all week!  Still not feeling rested, even with naps during the day.  I love sleep!  Speaking of sleep, it is 9:24pm.  My tummy is rummbling and my eyes are getting heavy.  So, I will listen to my body and feed and rest it.  Another day beckons tomorrow, oh, I am working tomorrow.  Grad is on Fri so we are doing all the corsages and bouts for it, fun!!  I'll let you know all about it tomorrow.

... I got nothing, I am sitting in a quiet room with a blank mind... all I can think about is eating some cereal and then laying on the couch.  I am sure at least one of you is saying, just do it Karis, stop typing and go lay down.  So, on the advice and guidance of my mom... that is what I am going to do!  Perhaps after a little rest I will come back, or not,  I will leave you in suspence!

Little Things

I know, I know, I didn't post yesterday.  It was a day of rest after all right?  Well, there was a little rest but mostly it was full of fun times with friends.  That seems to be what we have been doing these past 2 days and have enjoyed it.  On Sat some friends from across the street came over and we did some Mario Kart Wii, well the boys did and actually finished the whole game!  We were up too late but it was great to relax and have fun.  In the morning, I found out from Gracie that she was up for a while of that night listening to us play and was asking us about some of the courses!  Yesterday we spent some time with other friends, let our kids play, walked the Platzl, had fun.  I went to see the movie Angles and Demons at the Kimberley movie theater last night with Keri.  I had never been to the theater before, it was better than I thought, well, at least the seats were.  The movie was good, better than I thought too.

I have been enjoying little things today.  Like, finding a potato from last year that we will replant.  Swinging on the swing in our yard as Jude played in the sandbox happily.  Watching Jude crawl right into the sprinkler and actually enjoy it.  Cuddling and scratching Bethy on the red chair before bed.  Buying a new hoodie for only $9.99.  Eating warm banana bread with a glass of milk. Ahhhhhh, the little things!

Life gets back to normal tomorrow, early to rise and get kids ready for the day.  Hope you enjoyed your long weekend!

Quietness

I love Saturdays like this.  Lazy, warm, quiet, restful.  The girl's are outside right now playing .  Jude is sleeping, there is a light breeze blowing, the sun comes and goes as clouds move across it.  We live in a very peaceful and quiet place.  Our friend Leanne slept over last night as she had to come to town to do some things for her renters here.  It was great to see her again and as we talked about 2 trips that she just had, the confirmation that I love quiet places remains.  She recently travelled to Scotland to visit friends.  She ate cheese fresh from the cheese mongur(?), attended Easter Sunday service in a 12th century old church, and was warmly welcomed by a community where her friend works, of able bodied and disabled people living life together.  She painted a wonderful picture and expressed such joy and peace in that experience.  No longer than a week of coming back she headed to Las Vegas.  The lights, noise, money,  and consumerism was overwhelming.  She went and saw Britany Spears in concert, saw the hotels and couldn't wait to get home!  I really have no desire to go there, and the more I watch my kids play, listen to the quietness I am reminded why we moved here.  I love the quiet life.  Sometimes it is easy to loose sight of this when the kids are loud and fighting, I am so busy I can't sit down and life just seems to go on without me.  I need to take more time each day to reflect, rest.  Well, that is all the time I get for today, life is calling me back, the kids are back in and bored and grumpy and Jude is waking up.  Till tomorrow.
